The winning packagings of the Pentawards 2018 awards have Spanish signature

Each year, the international jury of Pentawards, the world prizes dedicated exclusively to the design of packaging, rewards with the maximum recognition the work of design in the universe of packaging. This year, the 12th edition of the Pentawards awards was held in the emblematic Guggenheim Museum in New York, a timely place to reward projects that fuse the past of traditions with the future of design opportunities. We highlight the award-winning projects, among which are also Spanish firms.

Diamond Pentaward (Best Of The Show) – Food

Mutti, the winning packaging in the Best of the Show category – Diamond Pentaward, designed by the Italian studio Auge Design, did not present any challenge to the jury by not offering them “another alternative than granting him the highest level award in Pentawards”, as he admits the president of the contest.

Platinum Pentaward – Other Markets

In a market saturated by the offer, it is essential to highlight the brand through design. Gatuna, a brand designed by the Spanish agency Bold, occupies an exclusive position in the market for agglomerating cat litter, a market full of standard products without differentiation in the packaging design. The challenge was to leave behind the technical details of the product to develop a stable link with the consumer and be their number one choice. The design concept is based on the intelligent practice of the product: easy, convenient and quick to use. The packaging, in which an illustration is the protagonist, breaks with the cold and technological visual codes -typical of the sector- and expresses the simplicity and understanding between the brand, the product itself and the consumer. A fully deserved Platinum award.

Platinum Pentaward – Luxury

This new design of the DIPTYQUE range of aroma diffusers is signed by Servaire & Co, a French studio that works with sophisticated high-end brands, taking full advantage of its luxury essence. This exclusive packaging establishes an almost poetic dialogue between home, aroma and time with an hourglass-shaped diffuser. The unique silhouette and glass covering differentiate each of the six fragrances for the house, being an eclectic inspiration and a sophisticated object of decoration. Its diffusion technology through wicks now has a wider surface, thanks to a new patent developed by Techniplast.

Platinum Pentaward – Body

Bloomdale is a brand of glasses that does not follow the typical codes of this product. The packaging design of their products has been created by the Netherlands studio, Studio Kluif. Instead of using photography, the studio opted for an alternative and developed a series of portraits to underline the brand’s motto: One Bloomdale for each face. These portraits play an important role in the entire communication strategy of the brand, in order to create a more extensive and personalized experience for each client.

Platinum Pentaward – Food (Cereals)

Such a cute and curious design of the rice company Shirokuma no Okome is possible thanks to the Japanese agency Frame Inc. This rice packaging is fantastically simple, but it also leaves a place for the imagination. The design concept establishes an association between the rice company Shirokuma no Okome and the image of the brand – the polar bear – and it does so with the help of charming and delicate illustrations that reflect the true softness of the product. The design is beyond the physical product -the rice- and is used to elevate the brand to a new space in the Japanese market, far from its competition, appealing to the emotional senses of the consumer.

Platinum Pentaward – Beverages

In a highly competitive category, the Yu Xin Long bottle, designed by the Chinese agency Shenzhen Lingyun Creative Packaging Design, stands out thanks to a design that launches its message without a specific description. The overall finish of this liquor is bold, clean, simple and rich; The main characteristics that are associated with the high quality of the product. This spirit drink is made of five medicinal ingredients, making reference to a long Chinese tradition, which also convey the illustrations of the liquor box.
