The ‘coloring matter’ comprises the pigments (insoluble in the ink binder) and the dyes, soluble. The pigments and dyes are made up of molecules containing chromophore groups capable of absorbing incident light. The ‘coloring matter’ has the complementary color of the color it has absorbed. Inks, mainly synthetic, organic and inorganic pigments are used.
